You retain clinical oversight.
We provide the nutrition expertise.

Why Clinics Refer Nutrition Cases to CANS

Most veterinarians don’t dislike nutrition because it isn’t important.

Most veterinarians know the fundamentals of therapeutic nutrition.

The challenge isn’t knowing the direction — it’s having the time to do it thoroughly.

Nutrition discussions can be nuanced, time-consuming, and sometimes uncomfortable — particularly when brand conversations enter the room.

CANS provides:

• A comprehensive case review beyond the consult window
• A structured, evidence-based report aligned with your treatment plan
• Clear rationale and client-ready documentation
• Brand-neutral recommendations grounded in medicine

You remain the primary clinician.

CANS strengthens the nutrition component of your care — without adding to your workload.

Why Veterinary Nutrition Support Matters

(And Why CANS Exists)

You already know nutrition changes outcomes — but between consults, emergencies, and admin, there’s rarely time to design a tailored plan for every case. A complete nutrition plan should consider the clinical priorities, the pet owner concerns, the pet preferences, nutrition calculations, a clinical reasoning and justification, consideration for treats... That is a time consuming and clinically complex exercise for every pet.

That’s where we step in.

CANS makes it easy for your clinic to offer specialist-level nutrition advice without losing control of the client relationship. By adding a nutrition department to your team, without the staff expense, you can increase your clinic revenue and enhance patient standards of care.

Which Cases Are Suitable for Referral?

CANS supports pets requiring detailed, evidence-based nutrition planning, including:

• Chronic or complex medical conditions
• Gastrointestinal disease
• Obesity, weight loss, or body condition management
• Food allergies or dietary intolerances
• Feeding tube or critical care cases
• Growth diets (puppy and kitten)
• Geriatric nutrition management
• Post-surgical or recovery support
• Home-prepared diet formulation
• Cases complicated by nutrition misinformation

If a case requires more time, depth, or documentation than a standard consult allows — it’s likely appropriate for referral.
